Neil Wood

Since I was young I have had scoliosis/Spondylolisthesis and I had a spinal fusion (L5 S1) in 2004 to stabilise my lower back and to minimise the pain that I was experiencing. I still live with chronic pain on a daily basis and cope with it through support groups, exercises and unfortunately daily medication.  From 2009 I began to learn how to ride a speedway bike (something I never thought I'd be capable of doing) at Sittingbourne Speedway in Iwade, Kent with the support from track staff.

In 2011, I invested in my own bike and decided to take the big leap from practising to competing in racing events. I decided to raise money for SCF while I raced to raise awareness of Scoliosis and managed to raise over £1000 whilst competing from 2011 to 2013. From 2014 until the present day I had to stop racing due to my health and costs involved but I hope to one day get back on a bike and get my health back to where it needs to be to do so!

The racing seasons were full of ups and downs, with extra challenges due to fitness. Video footage of all my fundraising efforts can be seen on my Youtube channel: I have catalogued my fundraising experiences on a variety of different social networks and I still post about my new challenges that lie ahead while I am currently off the bike.

I would like to thank everyone for their support through my fundraising, my journey is not over yet! :)
