Neil Wood

Since I was young I have had scoliosis and I had a spinal fusion in 2004 to stabilise my lower back and minimise the pain that I was experiencing. I still live with chronic pain on a daily basis and cope with it through support groups and exercises.  I have been learning to ride a speedway bike since 2009 (something I never thought I'd be capable of doing) at Sittingbourne Speedway in Iwade with the support from track staff. In 2011, I invested in my own bike and decided to take the big leap from practising to competing in racing events. I decided to raise money while I raced to raise awareness of scoliosis and managed to raise
a grand total of £523.10, surpassing my target
for 2011.

The season was full of ups and downs culminating in my first race win on 13th November in Kings Lynn at the last race of the season. Video footage can be seen on my Youtube channel: www.youtube.com/user/Woodee. I have catalogued my fundraising experiences on a variety of different social networks; you can see what happened in 2011 along with the build up to my 2012 season:

I would like to thank everyone for their support in 2011, and I am looking forward to more racing and fundraising in 2012!
